Despite our fear of sharks, the chances of getting attacked by a shark are 1 in 3 million in comparison with the 1 in 100 chance of getting hit by a car.
Sharks are often described as violent and aggressive beasts that are out to get mankind, but the fact that there has been a mere 60 fatal attacks between 2007 and 2016 betrays this idea.
However, sharks will always remain a deeply embedded fear in us, nobody wants to die by being devoured by one of these gigantic and terrifying creatures.

The Unprecedented Attack of Shirley Ann Durdin, 1985
This attack is definitely etched into the memory of most Australians. The trauma was caused by the attack itself; Shirley Ann Dundin was eaten by a Great White Shark! When she was swimming in Peake bay, she was attacked by an enormous shark of several meters long! When the emergency services arrived, all that was left of the poor victim was her torso: it was the first time in Australia in which a person was eaten alive by a great white.
