Sharks are often described as violent and aggressive beasts that are out to get mankind, but the fact that there has been a mere 60 fatal attacks between 2007 and 2016 betrays this idea.
However, sharks will always remain a deeply embedded fear in us, nobody wants to die by being devoured by one of these gigantic and terrifying creatures.

The Incredible Recovery of Bethany Hamilton, 2003
One of the most well known surfing champions in the world, Bethany lost her left arm to a shark when she was just 13 years old in 2003. Even though she lost 60% of her blood and had to have some pretty serious surgery, the champion never gave up on surfing and went on to keep winning competitions.
