That year, her and her husband’s Ike more than famous version of Proud Mary became their biggest hit.

The rythm and blues diva from Tennessee toured for a few years with her husband until their divorce in 1977.

Her solo career started in 1984 with her debut album Private Dancer, consecrating Tina Turner with three Grammy Awards and 20 million copies sold worldwide.

At the peak of her success, the singer even played in the movie Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome in 1985.

In 1991, her and and her husband Ike were inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Ike Turner died of a cocaine overdose in 2007.

At 78, Tina Turner stays one of the icons of American music.
