1952 : A US Marine Saves A Kitten
Here is a picture of Frank Praytor, a Marine Sergeant, holding a kitten named “Miss Hap”. This picture was taken during the Korean War; this kitten was born at the wrong place at the wrong time. An other soldier had killed the mother’s kitten for making too much noise, Miss Hap was an orphan.

1946 : Nuclear Bomb Test
Operation Crossroads (picture) was a pair of nuclear weapon tests conducted by the United States at Bikini Atoll (Marshall Islands) in mid-1946. The atoll is known for the nuclear testing the United States conducted on it during the 1940s and 1950s. From 1946-1958, 23 nuclear bombs were detonated at seven sites on the atoll. The one seen on this picture was detonated in just 90 feet of water and caused huge damage and contamination to the atoll.

1920 : Prohibition
Concern over excessive alcohol consumption began during the American colonial era, when fines were imposed for drunken behavior and for selling liquor without a license. On January 16, 1920 prohibition was about to hit. Millions of Americans lined up to buy their last legal drinks. The 18th Amendment outlawed “the manufacture, sale or transportation of intoxicating liquors” and took the reign for the following 12 years till it was repealed. Organized crime prevailed at this time.

1981 : The Reagan Assassination Attempt
John Warnock Hinckley, Jr. shot President Ronald Reagan and White House Press Secretary James Brady in the head. Brady suffered brain damage and was permanently disabled; Brady’s death in 2014 was considered homicide because it was ultimately caused by this injury. John later admitted he had done it to gain the attention of actress Jodie Foster.

1965 : Muhammad Ali
Ali knocks out Sonny Liston while shouting, May 1965, Lewiston (Maine). Ali won with a first-round knockout. This is one of the most notorious picture of the boxing history.

2011 : The Japanese Tsunami
This disaster was a magnitude 9.0 undersea megathrust earthquake off the coast of Japan that occurred in 2011. This earthquake was the fourth largest earthquake ever recorded. It is the worst nuclear disaster in the history of the world. It hit the Oshika Peninsula and destroyed a nuclear power plant that is still leaking radioactive fluids into the sea.

1947 : UFO's, Roswell New Mexico
In mid-1947, a flying object crashed near Roswell, New Mexico. Newspapers and the military told they found a UFO, but one day later the military changed its story and no one really knew what actually happened at the crash site.

Here King delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech to over 250,000 people in midst of racial tensions in the United States. This is the world most popular speech ever made. The march was one of the largest political rallies for human rights in United States history.

1953 : The Wedding of John Kennedy and Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy
When they married in Rhode Island on September 12, 1953, it was national news. LIFE magazine sent photographer Lisa Larsen to cover the event. “Bride and bridegroom finally sit down to lunch after the long, wearying ordeal of the receiving line. Jacqueline, whose wedding dress contained 50 yards of material, adjusts veil while her senator husband starts right in on fruit cup.”

1944 : The Omaha Beach Invasion
One of the most memorable days in the french history. On Tuesday, 6 June 1944 happened the largest seaborne invasion in history. 34,250 American troops landed on this infamous beach. Within 24 hours the allies took back Omaha beach.
